Mabon is the second Pagan harvest festival, the Wine Harvest. It is celebrated on the Autumn Equinox, generally September 21st or close to. As an equinox celebration the focus is on the idea of balance Just as day and night are of equal length, so we also see the balance of a full larder but empty fields, the contentment of a long summer well spent and the quiet contemplation of the darker months ahead.
Mabon is an enjoyable family time, celebrated with feasting. Apples, grains, pomegranates and wine are all appropriate foods to enjoy together. Walking in woodland or preparing the home for the winter months are good choices of activities. It is a time for enjoying the richness of autumn in all its warm-coloured finery.
