Around this time of the year, it’s easy to feel a little jaded. The year starts full of promises to do better, resolutions involving denying ourselves various things, or gruelling new regimes, and guilt about the excesses of the holiday season. But two weeks in, things are often not moving as fast as we’d like. It’s dark and cold and soggy, and we’d really like a piece of cake. We start to feel disheartened, and wonder if maybe we were expecting too much of ourselves. The guilt creeps up.
When this happens, it’s time for a little self-care. Because you are doing fine! It’s a difficult time of the year. New beginnings take time to take root. And there is plenty you can do to be kind to yourself, and help yourself remember that things will improve, without needing to go back on all your good intentions.
My favourite witchy self-care tips include taking a ritual shower, envisioning the water shining with white light, washing over you and washing away your doubts and your guilt, and coating you in resilience and renewed confidence. You can also use crystals to help promote a sense of well-being. Carry rose quartz to promote self-love, malachite to strengthen your energy shield and to help in times of change, pyrite for positivity, or black tourmaline for self-confidence.
Also, don’t forget to call on the elements to help you. Earth can help you feel grounded, water washes away our troubles, air blows away the cobwebs and fire fills us with passion and enthusiasm.
Most importantly, remember to be kind, both to yourself and those around you. Making someone else’s day easier can give you a surprising sense of well-being. And you should always be kind to yourself - you are doing your best, and you need to look after yourself.
